How does it work?

Project Wenceslas was originally set up to allow pensioners who didn’t need the Government’s Winter Fuel Payment to help others keep warm and fed. But these days anyone who is able can participate. Donations are placed in a ring-fenced account with every penny used to support those in fuel poverty or who simply can’t put food on the table. Like all donations made to the Lions, nothing is deducted for administration.

How do we select those in need?

We work very closely with the Citizens Advice Bureau in Leatherhead and Dorking, Christians Against Poverty in Bookham and Leatherhead Community Hub to identify those needing help from Project Wenceslas.

"Often, it is serious illness that tips a family into difficulty.  For example, we helped one family when the main breadwinner fell seriously ill and had to give up work and his partner also had to curtail work to care for him.  From having two incomes, the family became dependent on benefits and fell into arrears.  Our Wenceslas fund offered a lifeline to pay off energy debts and keep them warm."
