Last Saturday, 6th July 2024, East Grinstead Lions Club member, Brendan Joyce, was honoured to be invited to receive a commemorative medal from the Association of the Polish Knights of Malta in gratitude to him in facilitating humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

Brendan has collected donations of bedding, clothes, toys and medical supplies from Lions members, volunteers and many local people since the beginning of the war and taken them to the White Eagle Polish Club in Balham where they are later transported to the Polish/ Ukrainian border for distribution.

Daphne, who is 94 years young and a neighbour of one of the Lions volunteers, has knitted 70 dolls for Brendan to arrange for distribution to Ukraine. The first 35 were sent for Ukrainian children in hospital and the last 35 were recently sent to a Ukrainian orphanage. Pictured is Count Jacek Tarnowski KM, the President of the Polish Association of the Knights of Malta holding one of Daphne’s dolls.

A huge well done to Brendan; you have helped so many people.
