Caterham Oxted & Godstone Lions Club’s Annual Swimathon took place at de Stafford School and was attended by over 90 swimmers in 14 teams.  The ‘most lengths’ category was won by Godstone’s Taekwondo Club who completed 73 lengths in 25 minutes – they must be fit!  The Lions fielded a team which completed 53 lengths – well done them too!  The whole event was safely managed and all the children and parents present said how much they enjoyed the afternoon.

Another  very popular Trivia Quiz  was  held in in Godstone’s  White Hart Barn in June  which raised £835 – grateful thanks to Quizzing Team Lion Tony S & wife Brenda.  Photo shows the winning team “Haven’t a Clue” but they obviously did!

The annual Handover Lunch  was held on Sunday  30th June, comprising a Bring & Share meal,  where Lion President Tony Gordon was installed for another year.

The Lions Club’s May Business Meeting celebrated Lion Peter Drysdale’s  90th Birthday.  A Civil Engineer by profession, Peter was given early retirement in 1993 and was able to pursue his Lions activities to the full.  He was Club President on two occasions, became District Governor for Lions District of South East England in 1995, held the post of District Secretary and was part of a District Committee which founded a Lions Club in Gomel, a town in Belarus badly affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.  There were also several years as International Relations Officer for the District, many occasions of socialising with the Twinned District in central Germany.  However, Peter did not neglect his support of his local club. A strong advocate of the ethos of Lions  - tolerance, understanding and service,  Peter is pictured in the somewhat serious pose of blowing out the candles on a birthday cake!
