Tonbridge Lions Club invited local groups with learning difficulties and/or complex needs from the area to attend the annual “It’s a Knockout” fun day.

Around 100 students in 11 teams from seven local special needs establishments were entertained on Friday 21st June at the Angel Centre, Tonbridge. All took part in a variety of games some very active, some testing the participants speed of running, following instructions and manual dexterity. This encouraged the teams to challenge themselves with a trophy awarded to the first place team, “Team Acorns” from Aspens. All the participants on the day received medals for which they were duly proud.

The teams had also designed and made Jokers which were judged by Tonbridge & Malling Mayor Cllr Steve Hammond together with the Lion President Gordon Hill. The prize for the best Joker was awarded to the “Blooming Carnations” from Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells Community Trust.

The event was first organised in the 1990`s by Club member Michael Adams who got the idea after seeing a similar event at another Lions Club. He then set about making all the items for the games some of which are still in use today.

The organising committee led by Lion Tom McHenry were extremely pleased with the way the day went and an enjoyable time was had by all. The committee would like to thank all those who took part and made it such a fun day and would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Angel Centre for their assistance in setting up the event.

Tonbridge Lions would welcome any establishment, who feel that they meet the criteria; to join them at the event in 2025. Details will be on the Lions website soon.
