The very successful 7th annual Martian Race took place on Sunday 16 June at McLaren Park, Horsell Common, Woking.  The popular event saw its largest turnout ever, selling out two weeks before race day with over 800 participants ranging in age from 4 to 78.

With a choice of 5, 10, and 21 kilometre distances, the races started with a 2 kilometre  Mini Martian run with 150 eager young participants. For the second consecutive year, the Bee-Lieve Foundation included the Martian Race in their summer fundraising. Their "100 Metres for Molly Challenge" in memory of Molly Price, organized around 50 runners to raise money for youth mental health support.

The organisers are very grateful for the support of local companies that helped sponsor and fund the event. Generous contributions were made by McLaren, Trident Honda in Ottershaw, The Run Company, Heather Farm Cafe, Oakhill IFS, Optichrome Ltd, Foundations Independent Estate Agents, Heritage Architecture, Horsell Co-op, and Goldsworth Park Waitrose.

Woking Lions are also indebted to the Race Committee, who worked tirelessly throughout the year coordinating logistics and permissions to make the event possible.

On Wednesday 26 June at Chobham Village Hall, a presentation party was held for beneficiaries which raised the highest figure ever in the life of the Martian Race.  Presentation of the cheques totalling £13,500 was made by President Reg Fianu, the main recipients being Woking and Sam Beare Hospice and The York Road Project for the Homeless.
